About Dave Chapman
Dave Chapman was born in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in the suburban town of Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
He has been a shoe shine boy, a moving man, a golf caddy, a limousine driver, a truck driver, worked retail at The Home Depot, a life insurance agent, a stock broker and financial advisor. He studied the humanities and comparative literature at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Dave now does freelance writing while he develops his career as a professional speaker. He is an active member of the First Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hunterdon County in Baptistown, New Jersey. He serves on the church’s Sunday Services Committee, leads one of the congregation’s Men’s Covenant Groups, and is his congregation’s Envoy to the Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office. He has delivered sermons at several Unitarian Universalist congregations on Intelligence and Achievement and the nature of Good and Evil in the 21st century.
Dave is a member of the Somerville, New Jersey Toastmasters Club where he has served as Vice-President of Public Relations, Secretary, and Sergeant-at-Arms, and has won numerous speaking awards. Dave is currently serving as the Chair of the Fund Raising Committee for the Toastmasters District 83 Semi-Annual Conferences.
Dave’s interests include music, especially from the Classical and Romantic periods, and he holds a very special fondness for the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Some of Dave’s special interests in literature include the Hornblower novels of C. S. Forrester and the Lord Peter Wimsey novels of Dorothy Leigh Sayers. Dave is a member of the United Kingdom-based Dorothy Leigh Sayers Society.
Dave’s hobbies include fresh water fly fishing, surfing on the Atlantic Ocean, social psychology, comparative religion, and, of course, the theology and interfaith outreach programs of Unitarian Universalism.
Dave Chapman lives in Flemington, New Jersey, with his fiancée, Janice Buffalow and their dog, Shadow.
